Since our creation as a nonprofit organization in 2001, the primary mission of The Heartbeat has been in writing and arts education. The Heartbeat was originally founded with young writers and their teachers in mind. 

Although The Heartbeat’s founding was inspired by a desire to reach out to educators and students in writing, we are equally motivated to provide people of all ages and backgrounds with opportunities to sharpen their artistic and literary skills. We have expanded our program initiatives to meet the needs of a more diverse audience, whether you are a novice or an expert in your craft or someone interested in trying something new. Working with an advisory committee of teachers, writers, and artists, The Heartbeat welcomes any and all individuals to take their artistic and literary endeavors to new levels.
