The Pulse

The Heartbeat Center for Writing, Literacy, and the Arts, Inc. prints its publication, The Pulse, twice each month.

Every other week, people receive The Pulse if they have mailboxes served by post offices in Augusta, Fall Creek, Eleva, Strum, Osseo, Fairchild, Whitehall, Pigeon Falls, Hixton, Alma Center, Merrillan and Humbird. This means that, approximately 12,500 households receive The Pulse twice a month.

The Pulse is not like other publications.  Stories are more analytical and feature-like than regular newspapers, and contain colorful features and photos.  Our writers have been hand-selected and have spent the majority of their lives in this region.

Each edition can be read online at

which is updated several times each week.
The Pulse contains plenty of news about the region's talented writers and artists – visual and performance. The Pulse’s writers and photographers feature the artists, and invites area residents to submit creative writing and photography for publication.

The Pulse highlights the school districts -- Whitehall, Eleva-Strum, Alma Center-Humbird-Merrillan, Osseo-Fairchild, Augusta and Fall Creek - and invites each district to use a two-page spread each month to communicate happenings in the district for all of its residents to see.

The Heartbeat's staff looks forward to growing The Pulse with your help. Our goal is to make it one of the Upper Midwest’s most unique publications. We'd love your feedback about The Pulse and its missions. Stop and see us at our Osseo office, or call Scott at 715-597-2470 or e-mail

On The Pulse's website we highlight musicians in the region and include links to their music for your listening pleasure. This summer we are hosting free concerts in Osseo's Central Park each Monday night from 5:30 - 8:00.  Join us for great music, creative crafts, good food, and family fun.
